The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are coming to a close
By Walt Webb
So the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are coming to a close. Other than the odd glitch here and there they have been a great success. Canada the host nation has exhibited national pride like no other time and the out pouring of patriotism has been great. We have always been a very proud nation. It is just that we do it in our usual reserved manor. The country took the opportunity to show the world what a great and diverse nation we are. If there ever was an experiment to show how people from different races and backgrounds can live together in harmony, Canada is the experiment and it is a resounding success. On the sports front Canada has had it's best showing yet in the winter games and sits now with 13 gold medals to her credit. This ties Russia for the most gold medals by a nation in one winter Olympics. Russia accomplished the feat in 1976. Canada has the opportunity now to take the record and make Olympic games history. Our Olympic men's hockey team plays the United States today for the gold medal in Olympic hockey. How fitting would it be to get the record by winning at the sport that is our national heritage. Canada brought the game of hockey to the world and is now one win away from rewriting Olympic winter games history. You can be sure that the men in the locker room are well aware of the implications, so on that note "GO CANADA GO". The US beat us in the round robin but there is to much pride on the Canadian team to let that happen again. Ryan Miller has been great for the US and hands down the best goalie in the tournament. Well Ryan I think your luck has run out. You are in the way of a Canadian hockey Hurricane that has a date with destiny.

No doubt that you guys did a great job. I watched the gold medal hockey game. It was one of the greatest games I've ever seen - very similar to the one where the U.S. beat the Russians at Lake Placid. Congrats to you all. (We'll get ya next time.)
