The 2010 Winter Olympic Games

So the winter Olympics are finally here. The opening ceremonies took place in Vancouver last night where Canada opened her arms and embraced the world and welcomed them as the host nation.
The message of peace and brotherhood was at the forefront of a healthy sporting competition. Do your best and enjoy the moment. The entertainment was top notch with the choreography and visual effects breathtaking at times. For the first time in history the Olympic torch was lit in doors at BC place. All in all other than one hydrolytic arm not functioning on the torch the show went off with clockwork precision. It was truly the best opening ceremony of the Olympics that I have witnessed and it made you truly proud to be Canadian. The only dark cloud on the whole experience was the unfortunate death of a young man named Nodar Kumaritashvili, a luger from Georgia who crashed and was killed during his final training run earlier in the day. One minute of silence was observed in his memory.

Some athletes stated when interviewed that the course was too fast and very dangerous.

The opening ceremonies were a fine tribute to Canada and it's people, Walt.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Nodar. I'm sure that many people watching on TV, don't fully realize the struggles of these athletes.
