Ron Lancaster CFL Icon
Allsports Wanted to pay Tribute to Ron Lancaster a CFL Icon I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Lancaster last week who died on September 18th after a battle with lung cancer. He was a true icon in the Canadian Football League and will be missed not only for his knowledge of the Canadian game but for his persona and dry wit. Our American cousins to the south may not know much about the CFL, but the league has been around officially since 1958 and can trace it’s roots as far back as the 1860’s. Ron Lancasters illustrious CFL career began in 1960 in Ottawa where he won a Grey Cup in his rookie year. After the 1962 season, the Rough Riders dealt him to Saskatchewan where he spent 16 years, leading the Roughriders to their first-ever Grey Cup title in 1966. “Quoted from CTV Article” Lancaster was known as the “Little General” by all of his piers and you can find more sports news on the web for him. “No Guts No Glory” Walt Webb |
