George Carlin passes away at 71
When George Carlin passed away at the age of 71 a couple of weeks ago in a certain way I felt a sense of personal loss. I am quite sure that many people of my generation felt the same way. To me George Carlin was a true giant in the comedy industry and I paid homage to his genius with a couple of video's from him on my sports blog, even though the only thing he did onsports was his monolog on the comparison between football and baseball. I remember listening to his albums when I was about 14 years old and laughing until I was crying. Just some of the things he would come out with, things about why this was said in the english language when, if taken literally, the meaning was opposite. He had a great way with words and was truely a master of the english language, with all of it's idiosyncrasies. There were more videos of his work on You Tube than you could imagine, so if you are in need of a good laugh, search him on you tube, you will have plenty to choose from. My personal favorite is the "Seven words you can't say on TV". So here's to you George your comedic brilliance will truly be missed. |
