Brampton Wins Mann Cup in a Sweep, just as Allsports predicted
Well the Mann Cup is over for another year with Brampton beating New Westminster in four straight games to take home the hardware. On this night I was thinking that maybe New Westminster deserved a better fate but in the end Brampton was just to strong, winning the game by a final score of 9-6. New Westminster was holding their own against Brampton but then it happened again at about the same point as it did in the previous game.The score was tied 3-3 with about three minutes left in the second period and Brampton was short handed, killing a penalty. Blaine Manning was down in the corner to Matt Roik’s right. He ended up beating the double team (this is inexcusable) and faked Roik far side before squeezing a shot in on the short side. Then with about 35 seconds left in the period Brampton got the ball in their goal crease and called a time out. When play resumed Brampton passed the ball around killing time so they would have the final shot of the period. They worked the ball back and forth until they caught the New Westminster defense out of position, passed into the middle for a point blank chance, making no mistake and scoring with three seconds left in the period.Taking a 6-4 lead into the second intermission. Brampton would lead the rest of the way to win the best of seven series four games to zero. This Brampton team was built to win the Mann Cup and there were very few weaknesses if any on the team. Anthony Cosmo was rock solid in the whole series and was the teams MVP, a very fitting choice. So next year the Mann Cup will be hosted by the winner of the western Lacrosse association as it alternates between the two leagues. The way it works is that the teams from the west next year will be bringing more money to the table with the hope of attracting some of the best talent to their team in order to make a good push toward hosting the cup next year. Will Brampton be able to keep this team together? Some how I doubt it, the players will go where the money is and you can’t blame them for doing so because after all lacrosse is a very tough sport and a career can only last so long. I was going to try a get some different pictures with the Mann Cup with the thought being that I could let the readers give their opinion as to what picture they liked the best, well it does not matter because the cup never surfaced where it was going to be displayed. There is a story behind it but that will have to keep for next time. There are not many places to find the sport of lacrosse and the Mann Cup on the web but a couple of other news sourses would be lacrosse inside the game, rogers tv and the box rocks. Yes and of course for Excelsior sports on the web we go Home. I hope you enjoy the pictures and for once I wish allsports had been wrong and the New Westminster Salmonbellies had of been able to win a game. The Salmonbellies will not be able to rest on their laurels and compete with the same team next year because for the reasons I gave above the WLA will be a much better caliber next year and if New Westminster sits tight they will not retain their tittle as the WLA champions.

The Mann cup was donated in 1910 and is about the most expensive sports trophy around. The cup and the players around it are made of gold and the cup is valued at about $25,000
